The DSL is actually the best amp Marshall has come out with since the 800's. I did a ton of research prior to purchaing my JCM800, and found a pretty consistent opinion on the DLS's from those in the know.

Over at the Marshall, many of the members, including the founder and moderator, consider the DSL to again have the best modern Marshall tone. They also say that it can be dialed in to get Plexi sounds, as well as JCM 800 tones.
Additionally, the cleans are some of the best that Marshall has ever done in their 2 channel amps. I have played a DSL or 2 at shops, but not at volumes loud enough to really get a feel for the ole' girl. I know chcjunior had some bad luck with the one's he purchased, but if I were considering a new production Marshall, the only one's I would look at are the DSL 50's and the 1987x RI. Just remember, opinions are like a-holes.everyone's got one. Try to get out and play one for yourself. I know that's a tired statement, but it's the truest one there is.
All the DSLs have serious reliablility issues. A dude I know had a DSL201 which broke down in the middle of playing it, he was very careful with it since it was his first tube amp (at least I think it was). He send it back to the store, who had direct contact with Marshall. Marshall is awesome as how the story continues. They couldn't fix it, so they send him a brand new DSL401, absolutely free! Now that's what I call customer service.
